Introducing the Charter Data Chat

At Instructional Data Solutions, we want every student to succeed. We recognize that there’s no one-size fits all when it comes to school structure.

In our work with schools nationwide, we’ve found that charter schools face a unique set of data concerns that don’t always get the attention they need. We want to dive into them in our special series: the Charter Data Chat.

In this series we will tackle your biggest charter questions on renewals, culture, student achievement, accountability, and the role data plays. We understand that charter schools aren’t one size fits all. Some are operating under national charter management organizations (CMOs) while others stand alone. Depending on the state and authorizer, charter schools may navigate renewal processes and accountability decisions through state agencies, local school boards, or other oversight bodies. Sometimes there’s a combination of all the above!

Charter schools are part of an educational ecosystem that is as diverse as our student bodies. Some places have a robust charter presence (for a while New Orleans public education was entirely charter schools), some less so. Instructional Data Solutions is based in Louisiana, where there are as many types of charter school as there are gumbo recipes (and we have a bunch of those!). Charter schools educate somewhere around 7% of the nation’s children, although this number varies by region (in DC, 45% of students attend charter schools).

We will explore charter-specific issues and solutions through this series. We want your feedback, so reach out to hunter@instructionalds.com with your ideas for topics!
